I am linking up with Corinna over at Track 8 this morning for the second installment of Keepin' It Real Mondays! I'm so excited about this new link up!
Yesterday Emmett woke up at 5:15. A!M! After an especially grueling night-of-many-wake-ups, I was really hoping to at least make it to the 6 a.m. mark before he started hollerin' at me. I let out a big annoyed sigh just to make sure my husband noticed the depth of my sacrifice, threw on some shorts, and began my day.
Just so you don't feel too sorry for me, let me explain that normally on the weekends Ray gets up with Emmett to let me sleep in, since I'm always up at least twice with Emmett in the night. But yesterday was Father's Day, so I let him sleep.
We planned to go to the 9 a.m Mass, which is always fun since Emmett usually naps at 9:30ish, but I knew we were especially in for it because of that early wake up. The poor little guy is cutting yet another tooth, and was obviously exhausted, so he pretty much yelled at me non-stop until I put him down for a nap. At 7:30 a.m.
Tired boy, but happy in his chair, as always! |
So sleeeeepy! |
Mornings like that are tough. Really tough. And I can't say I handle them well. I get frustrated and exhausted and although I do my best not to show it or take it out on my sweet baby boy, inside I'm a wreck. My husband, on the other hand, is patient and gentle and never loses his cool. He's such a good dad to Emmett, and he helps me to stay calm and makes me a better mama, every day. We are lucky to have him.
Giving me attitude at Father's Day brunch. Cheeky boy. |
Did I mention I managed to let my daredevil son fall head-first off our bed the other morning?
P.S: This may be cheating, but I'm also linking up with Mary Beth at Annapolis & Company!

Oh mercy. I hear ya. That face though! The pouty face! I think being sleep deprived is a recipe to snap for ANYONE, let alone when you're a working mom with a million other things goin on. You're a great mom, AK!
ReplyDeleteThanks Corinna! Sleep deprived is my middle name these days (more like this year) but of course some days are worse than others.
DeleteThat face is pretty cute. :)
I feel your pain...Ted slept from 9:00-3:00. Sounds amazing right?! But...then he was up until 4:00, up again at 5:00...6:00...7:00. It is so hard when you are so exhausted!
ReplyDeleteKellie it's so hard! Emmett did that for months! Okay, he still does that. Even on his best nights, he still wakes up every morning between 5 & 6, and I do everything I can to get him back to sleep for another hour! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't know what I would do with a full night's sleep!
DeleteOh no! Sorry to hear about your rough morning! I'm not a morning person (never have been) and don't handle parenting during the a.m. hours well. It sounds like you made the best of it and survived...sometimes that's all we can ask for.
ReplyDeleteOh, and don't beat yourself up about him falling off the bed. Although I took every precaution, my oldest rolled off her changing table at about 9 months and my youngest has taken more than one header off the bed. Now at 4 years old and 2 years old, they are just fine. :)
Thanks Jennifer! It's so awful when they hurt themselves, but my boy is a daredevil so he tends to hit his head a lot. I just hate that I could have prevented that one and didn't. He was totally fine though, I think I was more upset about it than he was!
DeleteOMG he is just the cutest little guy, I remember those 5 am wake ups and teeth cutting stages like it was yesterday, it was hard/annoying and frustrating, yet I miss them :( my little girl is now 5 and I have been trying to turn back time every time she says something too adult, babyhood moves fast.....too fast.
